Dye is an effective method for changing your style and give a new look to your hair. However, dyes can really damage your hair, as they contain many chemical products. Many people do not like putting chemicals on their head and hair as it can damage the hair and leave your hair dry, lifeless and frizzy.

The good news is that there are many gentle ways of darkening your hair colour or natural hair colour using natural home remedies and simple ingredients. Here are some effective ways of darkening hair the natural way:

The coffee stains your hair and makes it a darker colour. For a deeper colour change you may have to repeat the process several times. Brew some strong coffee (darker blends are best) and let it cool down. Pour the coffee into a bowl. In the shower wash your hair normally and use the coffee as a rinse passed through your hair several times. Rinse with water and then wash your hair again, rinse and apply a conditioner. Towel dry your hair.

Black tea also has the same staining effect like coffee. Brew a pot of some strong black tea. Let it cool down and put it into a bowl. Rinse the black tea into your hair a few times. Rinse one last time, waiting ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing out completely. Shampoo and condition your hair. Finally towel-dry your hair. This is a great way to darken your hair a few shades. This method does fade quickly, so for best results try repeating once a week.

Before placing the oil on your hair, place it in a small bowl and warm it up slightly in the microwave or in a small pot on the stovetop. Apply the mustard oil to your hair. Start with the ends of your hair. Once your ends are saturated with oil, work your way up towards your roots. Ensure that the oil is evenly applied to your hair as you go by gently massaging the strands between your fingers and/or hands. Wrap your hair in a shower cap and leave the oil for atleast 2 hours or overnight. Shampoo the next morning.

Sage is a herb you can use to darken your hair naturally. This method darkens hair a few shades but needs to be repeated once a week for the best results.  Put about a cup of sage in a pot filled with water. Let it boil for a couple of hours. Strain out the leaves. Apply the water to your hair. Leave in your hair for half an hour. Wash your hair. If you want a more intense colour, repeat the procedure.

Mix 1 teaspoons of amla powder into a bowl. Then, add 2 teaspoons of coconut oil to the bowl. Stir the ingredients together so that the mixture is smooth. Apply the liquid to your hair as a rinse, leaving it on your hair for about 30-90 minutes. Then shampoo and apply conditioner to your hair as usual, and towel dry.

Mix the cocoa powder with water to form a thick paste, rub it into your hair, cover with shower cap and leave it on for 10-20 minutes. The longer you leave it on the darker the colour will be. Wash your hair normally and apply a conditioner. You can also fill a half empty bottle of shampoo with cocoa and use it for washing your hair.
